About the Coalition

The San Diego Asian Pacific Islander (API) Coalition is a group of San Diego API organizations that operates under the fiscal sponsorship of Pacific Arts Movement, a 501(c)3 organization.
Our mission is to facilitate conversations with API communities and advocate for representation of voices by:

  • Amplifying and cultivating leadership

  • Acting as a hub for API organizations to collaborate

  • Building a more inclusive and equitable San Diego

Originally formed in 2020 in response to the rise of anti-Asian discrimination and violence across local and nationwide headlines, the San Diego Asian Pacific Islander Coalition alongside hundreds of community allies, elected representatives, and supporters came together to share a unified voice of better serving and supporting our Asian and Pacific Islander communities.

Since then, the SD API Coalition continues to consistently meet to advocate and foster deeper community collaboration for a more inclusive and equitable San Diego. A few milestones the Coalition is proud to celebrate:

  • Over $75,000 in Asian and Pacific Islander Community Grants administered to local community based organizations and nonprofits

  • Signature mental health, advocacy, and community outreach workshops and events held

  • Catalyst collaborations across multiple community organizations

  • Growing the Coalition with opportunities for transitional-aged youth internships
